BETHANY, W.Va. – A Bethany College alumna and an associate professor recently performed at the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tenn., as part of a songwriters’ night.
Amanda McCoy ’09 presented six original songs, including her latest single “Magic House,” during the Oct. 20 event.
McCoy released “Magic House” in September in coordination with “When Ghosts Come Home,” the latest novel from best-selling author and former Bethany professor Wiley Cash. The single will be part of her upcoming fourth album “Queen of Sound.”
McCoy, originally from Coshocton, Ohio, graduated in 2009 with a degree in music. She met Pandel Collaros upon her arrival at Bethany in 2005.
The associate professor of music and chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts has since served as McCoy’s mentor and, for more than 10 years, her producer.
Collaros, also the director of the Bethany Rock Ensemble, accompanied McCoy at the Bluebird and presented his original song, “Franklin County Line.”
Nashville artist Rachel Lipsky hosted the songwriters’ event, which also featured Dave Pahanish. A native of southwestern Pennsylvania’s Greene County, Pahanish has co-written several No. 1 hits performed by artists including Toby Keith and Keith Urban.
The Bluebird Café was a prominent location in the TV series “Nashville” and the subject of a 2019 documentary featuring such country stars as Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Taylor Swift and Maren Morris.
