BETHANY TO HOST WEST VIRGINIA SHAKESPEARE AND RENAISSANCE CONFERENCE

Bethany, W.Va. -- Bethany College will host the 31st annual conference of the West Virginia Shakespeare and Renaissance Association on May 19-21. The conference explores contemporary issues in Shakespeare and Renaissance literature.

The conference draws Shakespeare and Renaissance specialists from across the United States , as well as West Virginia , and offers eight paper sessions on Shakespeare and other Renaissance authors.

Sessions include topics on Social Mobility and Shakespeare; Shakespeare – Biography and Character; Literature as Social Commentary; Structure-Rendering Text, Rendering Perspective; Shakespeare and His Contemporaries; Salvation and Redemption; Notions of Self; and Death, Madness and Sex. All sessions will be held in Phillips Hall on the Bethany campus.

A keynote address by Dr. Hugh Grady, Professor of English at Arcadia University , will be held at5:30 p.m.on May 20. Grady will speak on the topic “Shakespeare and Impure Aesthetics.� A banquet will follow.

The registration fee for the conference is $40. Admission is free for students, teachers and the Bethany College community.
