Bethany, W.Va. — Bethany College will celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March with a variety of events for students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. Sponsored by the Office of Student Services, Amnesty International, and Alpha Xi Delta sorority, these activities are open to all.

The celebration will begin March 20 with an interactive event called "Butcher Your Body Image." The event will be held in Renner Too at 8:30 p.m. and will be headed by Deana Ekas, Bethany College's counselor.

On Wednesday, March 21 "Celebrate Women" will be held to recognize and honor the well-respected women of Bethany with various acts performed by talented Bethany students. The event will take place in Renner Too at 7:00 p.m.

Alpha Xi Delta and Amnesty International will co-sponsor "Week of Action" beginning on Monday, March 26 with a movie night featuring the Oscar nominated film Hotel Rwanda. The movie will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Maxwell's.

Continuing the celebration a candlelight vigil, "Take Back the Night," will be held on Wednesday March 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the outdoor classroom. Human Rights Lawyer, Lisa Johnson-Firth, will speak on women's rights. Firth serves as the campaign coordinator for Amnesty International's Stop Violence Against Women in Virginia and manages a full time nonprofit career handling cases through her organization, True Empowerment Now, located in Washington D.C.

To conclude Women's History Month a campus safety walk will commence on Richardson Lawn beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday March 29.

To support the campaign to eradicate violence against women, purple ribbons will be available in the cafeteria to wear during the "Week of Action."
