BETHANY SENIOR WOMEN TO BE HONORED AT THE DARLINE NICHOLSON SPRING BREAKFAST ON APRIL 14
BETHANY, W. Va. - Bethany senior women will be honored at the annual Darline Nicholson Spring Breakfast on Saturday April 14, 2007 at 10 a.m. in Benedum Commons.
This is the 60th year that the Panhellenic Council has honored the seniors at the breakfast that, traditionally, has a menu featuring fresh strawberries and cream.
The Darline Nicholson Spring Breakfast has a rich history at Bethany that extends back to 1947. The breakfast was established at a time when female faculty members and senior women came together at the end of the school year to honor Bethany’s senior women. Every year the Outstanding Junior Woman gives a toast to the seniors. This year's Outstanding Junior Woman is Stefanie Taylor.
In the 1960s the Panhellenic Council became the sponsor of the breakfast and the guest list was expanded to include all women on the Bethany faculty, staff and student body along with special invited guests. It was renamed the Darline Nicholson Spring Breakfast in 2000.
It is tradition for the Brothers of Sigma Nu to serve as waiters and in the early 1970’s a fashion show became part of the event. This year the breakfast will be held in conjunction with Siblings Weekend and Bethany women are invited to bring their female siblings.
This year’s guest speaker is Elizabeth Chewning, a 1979 graduate of Bethany and the State Travel Director for the West Virginia Division of Tourism.
Chewning joined the WV Division of Tourism in January 2004 and is responsible for developing and implementing the Division’s strategic marketing plan. She oversees the marketing and advertising activities of the Division and supervises the professional staff responsible for those activities.
From 2002-2004, Chewning was an account manager for The Manahan Group and from 1995-2002 she worked in advertising with Choice Hotels International. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in communication from Bethany.
During the program, announcement will be made of the recipient of the Aleece C. Gresham Award. This prize is given to a senior woman who has displayed sound academic accomplishments, who has participated in and displayed leadership in a variety of co-curricular activities and who has shown dedication and commitment to the College. All women on Bethany’s campus are invited to attend.
