BETHANY ANNOUNCES RESIDENTIAL BASKETBALL CAMP

BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College will hold its first Bethany College Basketball Camp June 22-26, 2008. Children ages 10-14 are welcome to attend.

The camp will feature low coach-to-player and basket-to-player ratios, allowing for more personal attention for each camper. Instruction will include position-specific training and fundamental skill development along with drills concentrating on shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive techniques. Three games a day will allow for overall skill development and competition.

The coaching staff will include Camp Coordinator Kevin Wilson and Camp Co-Directors Aaron Huffman and Rebecca Upton.

Wilson, a former NBA assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons, has been running basketball camps for 35 years. He was an All-American college player under legendary coach Bill Musselman. Wilson played professionally with the Los Angeles Stars of the ABA and has coached at the University of Minnesota, San Francisco State and Chapman College. He is currently the Director of Admission for Bethany College.

Huffman is the Head Men's Basketball Coach for Bethany College and has brought the program into national spotlight. He has been named Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the year three times. Huffman’s players have earned All-PAC accolades 16 times, including three PAC Player of the year honors, five All-Region awards, three All-American nods, two Academic All-Americans and a finalist for the Jostens Trophy for the NCAA Division III National Player of the year in 2006.

Upton is the Head Women's Basketball Coach for Bethany College. Under her tutelage, Upton has had players earn All-PAC honors 9 times. She has also coached at Shippensburg (Pa.) University and West Virginia Wesleyan, where she spent three years as an assistant coach. Upton played basketball for four years at Westminster College and was the team's Most Valuable Player her senior year. She was also named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team in 1999 and 2000.

The Bethany College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Programs have earned 10 NCAA Tournament bids, five ECAC Tournament bids and 17 PAC Conference titles between them. The 2007-08 season marks the 100th anniversary of basketball as a varsity sport at Bethany College.

The Bethany College Basketball Camp is open to teams or individuals. Special team and family rates are available. Campers have the option of staying in residential housing on the College campus or commuting from home. Those that choose to reside on site will stay in air-conditioned dormitories, with coaching supervision and be provided three meals a day at the campus dining hall.
