“There’s no better way to demonstrate to prospective scholars the value of a Bethany education than by introducing them to a successful alumna such as Elizabeth Verrier,” said Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of the College. “A former Kalon Leadership Scholar herself, Elizabeth has a compelling story to share.”

Kalon Leadership Scholarship candidates are chosen based on high school leadership activities, academic performance, and a submitted essay.   Students tour the campus, hear presentations from senior administrators, faculty, and current Kalon Scholars and complete the process with in-depth interviews conducted by three-member teams that include a Bethany faculty or staff member, a current Bethany student and an alumnus.

Verrier, who graduated magna cum laude from Bethany, attended Bethany on a Kalon Leadership Scholarship. In 1999, she graduated cum laude with a law degree from Pace University School of Law.

An accomplished attorney with 16 years of legal experience, Verrier now supports the Enterprise Growth division of American Express, with a focus on regulatory and consumer protection issues in emerging and alternative payment systems.

Prior to her work at American Express, Verrier served as Compliance Counsel and Chairperson for Internet payment platform Revolution Money, Inc. She has also served as Assistant General Counsel at Union State Bank, which was the largest commercial banking corporation in the Hudson Valley. Verrier began her legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department, through which she prosecuted juveniles charged with gang-related crimes and narcotic offenses.
