Bethany College Appoints Alumna Dr. Autumn Mayle as Assistant Professor of History

BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Autumn Mayle ‘11 as the new assistant professor of history.  

Mayle graduated from Bethany in 2011 with a bachelor’s in history. She went on to receive a Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 2020, where she focused on gender and kinship studies, as well as modern European history. 

“It’s always exciting when we get to welcome back an alumna to campus in a different capacity,” says Bethany President Dr. Jamie Caridi. “I am confident that Autumn will inspire and engage our students, fostering a deeper understanding of the past and its significance in shaping our future.” 

Mayle has an extensive background in academic research involving history, having attended several professional conferences, and being published in the H-War Network Journal. Mayle also has a range of experience in teaching and higher education administration at distinguished institutions, including Franciscan University of Steubenville and West Virginia University. Before accepting this position, Mayle taught history of civilization at Franciscan.  

“We are delighted to have Autumn Mayle join our faculty as the assistant professor of history,” says Provost and Dean of Faculty Dr. Anju Ramjee. “She will undoubtedly enrich our students’ academic journey, opening new avenues of historical exploration and critical thinking.” 

In accepting this position, Mayle expressed her excitement to teach at her alma mater. “As an alumna, I am extremely proud and excited to be returning to Bethany as a faculty member.”
