BETHANY, W.Va. – A new undergraduate major in criminal justice has been launched at Bethany College, and Dr. Jeff Bryson has been selected to lead this in-demand endeavor.
Bryson comes to Bethany from Glenville State College in Glenville, W.Va., as the assistant professor of criminal justice. Bryson received his Ph.D. in public safety with an emphasis in criminal justice from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. He also has a B.A. in Bible and religion from Ohio Valley University (formerly College), in Parkersburg, W.Va. Bryson has over three decades of experience, and is recognized for his many publications.
“Dr. Bryson was an exceptional candidate for the position,” says Bethany President Dr. Jamie Caridi. “His extraordinary experience, his passion for the discipline, and his affable and authentic personality are sure to lead the Criminal Justice Program to success for many years to come.”
Bryson’s experience doesn’t just come from higher education. In fact— he has many licensures outside of his Ph.D. in public safety, including being a clinically certified sex offender treatment specialist, certified criminal justice addiction specialist, independent marriage and family therapist, and a professional counselor.
“It is exciting and humbling to be a part of Bethany’s new criminal justice degree program. It is my hope that our students will be responsible and conscientious criminal justice professionals,” says Bryson.
Since coming to campus in July, Bryson has been hard at work developing the program and taking it to new heights. He has hopes for criminal justice clubs, a CSI house, and more. Currently, Bryson teaches intro to criminal justice, criminal investigation, community corrections, research methods in education, and peer mentoring.
“We are fortunate to have Jeff on our faculty. His depth and breadth of experience in the criminal justice field will serve our students very well,” Vice President for Enrollment Dana Bearer says.
