BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College religion professor Dr. Brooke Deal recently finished co-authoring a textbook through Cognella Academic Press.
“An Introduction to Ancient Israel & the Hebrew Bible: A Diachronic Approach” blends archaeological detail with biblical commentary.
Deal, co-chair of Bethany’s Department of Humanities, wrote the textbook with Dr. Ken Bramlett, an associate professor of archaeology of at La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif.
Deal’s research focuses on women’s roles and worship in the ancient world in terms of ancient Israel, and she provided, exegetical commentary and a feminist perspective to the book.
Bramlett, who is also history and antiquity curator and associate director for La Sierra’s Center for Near Eastern Archaeology, provided the archaeological material culture.
Cognella approached Deal and Bramlett, as faculty members of schools that had a religion requirement, to write the textbook. The book was published as a first edition for academic use will be updated by the authors.
