BETHANY, W.Va. – Democratic candidate for West Virginia governor Stephen Smith will address Bethany College students on Tuesday, Dec. 3, as part of a Get out the Vote event organized by the Junior Honors Seminar.

Smith will speak at 5 p.m. in the back of the Ogden Dining Hall.

He is expected to discuss the struggles in West Virginia and how students can get more involved in the community and the government, student organizer Celeste Marchbanks said.

As part of his campaign for governor, Smith, a community organizer and former director of Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, is promoting a larger movement called West Virginia Can’t Wait that encourages voters at the local level to determine the state’s future for themselves.

Students of the Junior Honors Seminar are required to complete a service project, and Marchbanks said the class decided to invite someone to campus who wanted to get students more involved in the issues that affect them.
