BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College homecoming festivities returned to campus this year with the dedication of Boomer’s, a new student-centric space, and many other events spanning the rainy fall weekend.

Friday kicked off with the Athletic Hall of Fame and was followed by the Hugh “Tiger” Joyce Golf Scramble, then both women’s and men’s soccer teams took on PAC (Presidents Athletic Conference) rival Franciscan University with women ending in a 2-2 draw, and men in a 1-1 draw. Saturday turned out to be a rainy day packed with activities, including a live Town Hall featuring Bethany President Dr. Jamie Caridi, Alumni Council President Angie Bado ‘77, and Board of Trustees Chairman Ken Bado ‘77.

Boomer’s dedication was also held on Saturday. This event was hosted by donors from the class of 1971, SGA (Student Government Association), alumnus Anthony Sparks ’13, and others who contributed to the newly renovated student-centric space below the cafeteria. Following the dedication was the Grimes Lecture series hosted by Larry Grimes himself for the first time since the inaugural lecture. Bethany then opened the lot at Hummel Field House for tailgating before Saturday’s big homecoming football game at Don Ault Field.

Bison hosted PAC rival Thiel Tomcats for homecoming weekend. During halftime of the game, homecoming royalty was officially crowned. Congratulations to our 2022 queen and king, Danielle Williams and Jack Gilman!

Unfortunately, The Thiel Tomcats snapped a 41-game losing streak by edging the Bethany Bison Saturday night 27-26. Following the game, students, fans, and alumni enjoyed some “5th Quarter” fun as they gathered for a night of music, food, and drinks.

On Sunday, Bethany hosted a Scroll Society breakfast at Oglebay Resort’s Wilson Lodge for the class of 1972, and all other alumni who have already celebrated their 50th reunions. A graduate automatically becomes a Scroll Society member upon the 50th anniversary of his or her graduation from Bethany. The Scroll Society can be traced to the 1960s when Maynard Patton, then-chairman of the Bethany Board of Trustees, invited several alumni of the 1910s and 1920s to a Commencement Day dinner at Wilson Lodge. Sunday concluded homecoming weekend with Kenn Morgan’s last lecture “My Way…” which took place at the Renner Art Gallery.
