Andre Butler/Ashley Duthie Honored as Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week

Jan. 19 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that men’s track and field junior Andre Butler and women’s basketball freshman Ashley Duthie have been chosen as the Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week.

Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) earned the honors after notching a school record and qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Championships in the 60-meter dash. The junior set the Bethany record in the qualifying heat, posting a time of 7.07. The run broke the previous mark of 7.12, set by Umar Moore (2015) and Shawn Burns (2014).

Along with his fourth-place finish in the 60, as well as the high jump (6-0), Butler posted a second-place mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.82. The junior currently ranks 22nd in all of Division III for the 200, just .02 seconds out of the top 20.

Duthie (Madison, Ohio/Madison) was named SAAC Athlete of the Week after a breakout week for the Bison off the bench. The freshman guard totaled double-digit scoring in both outings last week, including dropping a career-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting against Washington & Jefferson. Then, in a win over Westminster, she filled the stat sheet, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

Having scored in double-digits just once previously, Duthie averaged 13 points per game to go along with four rebounds and three assists in two contests. She ended the week shooting 60 percent from the floor, missing just one shot from inside three-point range.

Other nominees included men’s basketball junior Andew Williams (Oil City, Pa./Oil City), swimming freshman Cheyne Stresky (Oxford, Mich./Oxford), along with track and field senior Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon). For the women, swimming junior Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton) along with track and field sophomore Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) also received nominations.
