March 2 - WEXFORD, Pa. –The Bethany College men’s athletic program is in second place in the PAC All-Sports Trophy race following the completion of the winter sports season.
The all-sports trophies are awarded annually to the schools which perform the best across the board in league competition. First place finishes are worth nine points (eight for men), second place is worth eight points (seven for men) ... last place is worth one point. PAC member Geneva is currently a provisional member of NCAA Division III and is thus ineligible for the PAC All-Sports Trophy.
Sparked by the men’s soccer team’s runner-up finish in the PAC Tournament and the men’s basketball team capturing it PAC-record 13th conference crown last weekend, the Bison have scored 25.5 points to trail only Washington & Jefferson (34) in the standings. Right on BC’s heels is Grove City and Thiel with 25 points each and Saint Vincent with 24.5.
Rounding out the men’s rankings through the winter seasons is Thomas More (22.5), Waynesburg (20) and Westminster (18).
Making the Bison’s accomplishments current standing even more impressive is they have already scored more in the All-Sports race this year than they did during the entire 2009-10 academic year. Last season, Bethany ranked seventh overall with only 22.5 points after the spring seasons.
Bethany’s women have scored 23 points so far and are in seventh place in the rankings just behind Waynesburg (24.5). Grove City is in front with 41.5 points.
