Oct. 28 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that sophomore swimmers Cody Hussey (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton) have been named the men’s and women’s Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Cody Hussey opened his season strong over the weekend, winning all four individual events (1,000 free, 500 free (2x), 200 free) as well as also swimming legs on the winning 200 free relay and runner-up 200 medley relay teams. On Friday against Alfred State, Hussey grabbed two first-place finishes, winning the 500 free (5:24.93) and 1,000 freestyle (11:18.07), as well as swimming a leg on the winning 200 free relay team. On Saturday in a Tri-match with SUNY Cobleskill & Bard, Hussey again showed his ability, winning the 200 free (1:57.26) and 500 free (5:21.95).
Pray had a strong showing over the weekend, winning all six individual events she competed in. Her best showing came in a tri-match at SUNY Cobleskill, where she collected wins in the 200 freestyle (2:10), 500 freestyle (5:40.08) and the 1,000 freestyle (12:25.35).
Others considered for the award on the men’s side included junior football players Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) and Nadim Raddar (Laurel, Md./Old Mill), as well as freshman soccer athlete Ryan Power (Sydney, Australia/Lisarow). Other women included senior cross country runner Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon), sophomore volleyball player Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum), sophomore soccer standout Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), freshman goalkeeper Taylor Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea) and freshman field hockey athlete Bailey Boardman (La Verne, Calif./Bonita).
