Jan. 6 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that basketball players, freshman Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) and junior Gabrielle Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) have been named the Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Jones averaged 9.0 points and three steals for the Bison as the team went 1-1 in non-conference play. During the week, Jones shot 69 percent from the field. In the team's 77-59 loss to Baldwin Wallace, Jones led the Bison reserves to their highest output of the season, as he scored a career-high 14 points and added a career-best four steals.
Naples helped the Bison post 77 total rebounds in Bethany's 40-point win over Chatham on Saturday. Naples posted a career-high 17 boards, including 13 defensive rebounds. Her total was the most by a Bison since Sami Schott collected 17 against Thiel College on Feb. 8, 2014. Naples' career-high contributed to a team total that was the fourth-most by any team in the country this season.
Other nominees for the SAAC Athletes of the Week included freshmen Andres Herrero (Guadalajara, Spain) for the men and Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) for the women.
