Daugherty/Hussey Named SAAC Athletes of the Week

Jan. 13 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that freshman women's basketball player Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) and sophomore men's swimming athlete Cody Hussey (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) have been named the SAAC Athletes of the Week.

Daugherty continued to impress last week for the Bison. In a contest against the second-ranked Saints of Thomas More, Daugherty posted game-highs in both points (20) and rebounds (13) en route to her second double-double of the season. Daugherty followed the performance against the Saints with her third double-double of the year against Waynesburg. Daugherty once again posted a career-best in rebounds (14) while adding 15 points to her total. During the week, she averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.

Since taking over a starting role eight games ago, Daugherty has played very well, averaging 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per night. She currently ranks seventh in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in points per game (13.7) and sits eighth in rebounds per contest (7.5).

Hussey had a solid week for the Green & White. In a conference meet against W&J, Hussey posted two second place finishes, including the 1,650 free (18:28.14). He also took top points in the 100 freestyle (52.70) and the 500 free (5:26.72). Against Pitt Bradford, Hussey scored the top time in the 1000 freestyle (11:02.10) and the 500 freestyle (5:17.78). He also became a triple winner as he placed first in the 200 free (1:55.53).

Over the course of the season Hussey has been a figure of consistency, taking first place in 16-of-21 individual swims this year. His top performances have come in the distance races, as he has captured top honors in 12-of-15 distance swims so far in the 2014-15 campaign.

Other nominees for SAAC athlete of the week included junior swimmer Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calf./GHCHS) for the women, and freshman basketball guard Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) for the men.
