Delonte' Joyce/Alexis Naples Earn Weekly Bethany SAAC Awards

Feb. 3 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced the men's basketball senior Delonte' Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and women's basketball sophomore Alexis Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) have been named the Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week.

Joyce continued his torrid pace as the Bison posted two victories last week, giving the program six-straight wins. In an 86-68 win over Geneva, Joyce posted his fourth, 30-point game of the season, finishing the contest with 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. In that win, Joyce also finished the game with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

In a 61-59 victory over Thiel, Joyce was at it again, giving the Bison the lead late in the game on a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining. He then stole the inbound pass to seal the victory for the Bison ... In the win, he finished the contest with 20 points, six rebounds and six steals.

On the week, Joyce shot 51 percent from the floor, while averaging 25 points, seven rebounds and 4.5 steals per game. With the victories, the Bison pulled in to a tie for third in the PAC standings with Thiel and Waynesburg.

Naples was a big piece in helping the Bison women's basketball team post back-to-back victories over Geneva and Thiel. The sophomore point guard showed her ability to manage the Bison offense as she totaled 17 assists in the two contests, while committing just one turnover. Despite averaging just three points per game, Naples finished the week averaging 8.5 assists per contest.

In the 70-66 victory over Thiel, Naples totaled 11 assists, the most by any Bison since the 2006 season. It also marked the most by a Bethany guard against a PAC opponent since 1997, and was just two shy of the Bison single-game record.

Naples has had a solid year as a game manager for the Bison offense. Naples currently leads the PAC in total assists (76) and assists per game (4.0). She has has an assist-to-turnover ratio of +2.3, which ties her for third in the conference and places her 15th in all of Division III.

If her numbers continue, Naples will be the first Bison to post an assist/turnover ratio of +2.0 or better since Audra Droginske in 2011.

Other nominees for SAAC Athlete of the Week included freshman basketball player Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) and junior swimming & diving athlete Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) for the women, and freshman basketball guard Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) and sophomore swimming standout Cody Hussey (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) for the men.
