Oct. 27 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that senior wide receiver Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) and senior field hockey standout Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) have been named the Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Blinn earned the nod as the men’s winner after helping lead the Green & White to a 41-15 victory over Geneva College on Saturday. In the game, Blinn totaled 215 all-purpose yards, becoming just the third active player in all of Division-III to reach 5,000 career all-purpose yards. He finished the day with seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. The multifaceted Blinn also posted an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown, marking the first special teams touchdown for Bethany since 2012.
With his totals, Blinn notched his 22nd career game with at least 100 yards receiving. He ranks first among all Division-III active leaders in receiving yards, currently boasting 3,996 yards. He also ranks as the career leader among all divisions in both total receptions (325) and receptions per game (8.33). This season, he currently sits first in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in receptions per game (9.2) while ranking second in receiving yards (108.9).
Gill helped the Bison field hockey team to a 1-1 week in their final week of the season, leading the Green & White to a 9-0 victory over Sweet Briar College on Senior Day. With the win, the Bison tallied seven victories on the season, equaling their win total from the three previous seasons. In the win, Gill posted her first-career hat trick, finishing the game with three goals, an assist, and a career-high seven points.
In her final season with the Bison, Gill had a banner year, posting a career-high nine goals, marking the most by any player since the program’s reboot in 2012. Gill also tied for the team-lead in total points (24), while ranking second in assists (6). Her point total also marked a program high since the 2012 season.
Honorable mention selections for SAAC Athlete of the Week included, senior defensive end Nadim Raddar (Laurel, Md./Old Mill) and junior soccer captain Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom) for the men, and sophomore soccer standout Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W. Va./Brooke) and junior outside hitter Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) for the women.
