Oct. 19 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that senior wide receiver Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) and sophomore goaltender Taylor Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea) have been named the Bethany College SAAC Athletes of the Month for September.
Blinn provided his usual offensive spark for the Bison as he appeared in five games during the month of September. Blinn totaled 43 catches for 508 yards and five receiving touchdowns. He recorded three 100-yard games and scored a touchdown in each as well. Blinn tallied 12 receptions for 185 yards and three receiving touchdowns against Thiel on September 12. The senior wideout also ran for a score in the game. Blinn collected 12 more catches for 107 yards and a touchdown against Waynesburg on Sept. 26, and added a nine-reception performance for 133 yards and a score on Oct. 3 against Case Western.
The senior led the Bison in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns throughout the month. Blinn was also the Presidents’ Athletic Conference leader in receptions per game and ranked second in the PAC in receiving yards per game.
Sasak started ten games for the Bison and has played every minute in net for Bethany this season. She recorded 119 saves for an 11.9 saves per game average. The sophomore totaled a .763 save percentage through ten contests. Sasak earned a win on Sept. 1 in a victory over Marietta as she collected 12 saves. She also picked up a win against Mt. Aloysius on Sept. 9 with 14 saves in the match. Sasak set a season high with 15 saves against Penn State Altoona on Sept. 18, and has kept the Bison in multiple games with her sound defense.
The sophomore goalie led the PAC in saves and saves per game in September. She has totaled at least nine saves in every match this season, including double-digit saves in nine of 10 games. Sasak is already closing in on her 2014 save total through one month of action.
Other nominees for SAAC Athlete of the Month for the women included field hockey senior T.J. Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) along with volleyball players Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and Reilly Parker (Irwin, Pa./Norwin). For the men, cross-country runner Jordan Castro (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua), football senior Donavan Hayden (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern), as well as Cody Levine (Washington, Pa./Bentworth) and Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) from the soccer team received nominations.
