Gabrielle Naples/Kevin Jackson Earn SAAC Athletes Of The Week

Jan. 7 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that women’s basketball sophomore Gabrielle Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) and men’s basketball senior Kevin Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) have been named the SAAC Athletes of the Week.

Naples averaged a team-best 13.7 points per game over the past four contests while totaling 4.5 rebounds. She also shot .551 from the field and converted on 21-of-23 free-throw attempts (.913). Over the Bison’s last four games, Naples has notched double figures in three of those contests, which included a career-best 24-point performance against Thiel on January 4.

Naples currently ranks third on the team in points per game, but ranks first among all Bison in points per contest against conference opponents, averaging 13.3 points against Presidents’ Athletics Conference teams. Naples also ranks third in the PAC in free throw percentage, currently shooting .857 on the year.

Jackson averaged 12.2 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting .491 from the field in five games over the holiday break. He notched double figures in four out of the five contests, and has now eclipsed 10+ points in 11 of the 12 games this season. In a win over St. John Fisher, Jackson posted 20 points which marked his second 20-point performance of the year. He also notched his second double-double of the year in a conference victory over Thiel, totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jackson currently ranks second on the team in points per game, scoring 13.5 points per contest. He also leads the team in points per game against conference competitors, scoring at a 14-point clip. Jackson has also been an extremely efficient scorer this season, currently ranking seventh in the PAC in field goal percentage (.522).

Other players nominated for the SAAC Athletes of the Week awards included junior Delonte’ Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) on the men’s side, and senior Taylor Verrico (Monaca, Pa./Quigley) for the women.
