Oct. 29 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Bethany College junior volleyball player Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and sophomore football player Jarret Rahymes (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) have been name the Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week announced the SAAC on Tuesday.
Harris earned her first athlete of the week distinction after notching 28 kills in just the two matches played this past week. Harris eclipsed 300 kills on the season after registering 22 kills while making just five errors on a 3-1 victory over Grove City College. She also added four total blocks in the victory. On Saturday, in a 3-0 win over Saint Vincent, Harris added six more kills.
Harris currently leads all Bison with 318 kills and 95 total blocks. She is currently averaging 2.84 kills per set and ranks fourth on the team in service aces with 30.
Rahymes was dominate once again in Bethany’s 7-6 loss to Westminster. Rahymes and the Bison defense did not allow a single point in the contest (Westminster’s only score coming on special teams). Rahymes finished with seven total tackles, and added 3.0 tackles for loss, which led the team. Seeing more of an active role over the last three games, Rahymes has helped the Bison hold their opponents to just 15.3 points per game.
Having played in just four of the seven games this season, Rahymes currently ranks third on the defense in total tackles for loss (5.0) and in sacks (2.0). Rahymes has currently totaled 12.5 tackles on the season.
Other nominees included junior Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) and freshman Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton) from the women’s swimming & diving team, and freshman Jake Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) from the men’s swimming & diving team.
