Nov. 18 - BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that sophomore guard Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) and sophomore running back Jalen Holmes (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) have been named the Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Holenka made a huge impact in her Bison debut, as Bethany defeated Franciscan, 71-57, in their season opener. Holenka shot 7-of-15, including 4-of-9 from three-point land, en route to a career-high 19-point performance. She also collected three assists and three rebounds.
Holmes helped the Bison to the team's season high in rushing yards as he toted the ball 16 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns in Bethany's 41-35 loss to Saint Vincent. Holmes notched his first multi-touchdown game of the season as he eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the second time this season. Holmes also rattled off the longest run for the Bison this season, as he scampered in from 55-yards out in the first quarter of the contest.
Others considered for the award on the women’s side included senior swimmer Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) and sophomore guard, Lauren Simpson (Washington, Pa./Trinity). On the men’s side were sophomore swimmer, Cody Hussey (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), junior defensive lineman Eric Campbell (Hurricane, W. Va./Hurricane) and senior guard Delonte’ Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis).
