Sept. 23 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that freshman women’s soccer forward Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) and football senior punter Stephen Amic (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny), have been named the Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Hinerman was the star of the show in Bethany's rout of Penn State - Beaver. She finished the match, scoring five goals en route to setting a new Bison record for most goals in a single game. The previous mark was four goals set by Missy Miller in 1995. Hinerman accounted for all three of Bethany’s first-half scores (19th, 21st, 25th), while adding two more in the second half of action (61st & 67th). She finished the contest with ten total points, and currently leads the Bison in both goals (6) and points (13). Her point total currently ranks her fifth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in that category.
In a close, 21-14 victory over Westminster, Amic was vital to the field position battle for the Bison. Amic constantly punted well, averaging 43.2 yards per punt over the course of nine punts. Not only did he place one inside the 20-yard line, pinning Westminster deep in their own territory, but he also booted a season-long 62-yard punt for the Bison a week ago. Amic currently leads the PAC in punting, averaging 40.4 yards per punt.
Other players that were nominated for SAAC Athlete of the Week included: women’s cross country senior Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon), women’s tennis freshman Corinna Wolf (Heidenheim, Germany/Schiller-Gymnasium), junior field hockey standout Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton), and junior volleyball libero Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) for the women, and men’s soccer sophomore Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) and football standouts Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) and Donavan Hayden (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) for the men.
