Joyce/Schott Earn Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week

Nov. 26 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Junior men’s basketball guard Delonte’ Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and sophomore women’s basketball forward Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah)  have been named the Bethany College Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week the Bethany SAAC announced on Tuesday.

Joyce helped the men’s basketball program to a 2-0 record last week, defeating the University of Mount Union 79-61, before taking down Penn State-DuBois 102-63. In the contest against Mount Union, Joyce notched his first career double-double, scoring 17 points while adding 14 rebounds. He followed that with a strong performance against PSU-DuBois, scoring a team-high 14 points while adding six steals and four assists in just 23 minutes of work.

So far this season, Joyce has led the Bison in scoring in all three contests. He currently leads the team in points per game (20.0), total steals and assists, and ranks second in rebounds per game (7.3). Joyce also ranks first in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in steals (3.7) and second in points per game while shooting .556 on the year.

Schott had two great games for the Bison, who went 1-1 in their opening week. Schott scored a team-best 13 points in a loss to Marietta on Tuesday and followed that by notching career highs in points (16) and rebounds (11) in Bethany’s 91-76 victory over Penn State-Beaver. The double-double also marked the first of her career.

Schott currently ranks second on the team in both points per game (14.5) and rebounds per contest (6.0). She also currently ranks first in the PAC in free throw percentage (1.000) and in the top 10 in field goal percentage (.500).

Other nominees for Athletes of the Week included swimming and diving athletes: freshman Jake Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) on the men’s side and sophomore Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) and junior Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) for the women.
