Sept. 2 - BETHANY, W. Va. - Bison volleyball junior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and freshman soccer player Ryan Power (Sydney, Australia/Lisarow) were selected as the Athletes of the Week for August 25 by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on Wednesday morning.
Mouch helped the Bison start off the season on the right foot as she led Bethany to a 3-1 record at the University of Mount Union "Purple Raider Classic". Mouch was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 87 digs in four matches and helping the Bison hold their opponents to a .166 hitting percentage. Mouch's biggest match came in a five-set victory over John Carroll when she posted a career-best, 36 digs.
Power scored the lone goal in Bethany's season opener against the College of Wooster. Over the tournament weekend, Power, who started both games, totaled four shots with three coming on goal. He also showed off his durability, logging 164 minutes of game time.
Other nominees for the awards included sophomore goalkeeper Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone Grammar School) on the men's side. On the women’s side included women's soccer sophomores Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont), field hockey sophomore Latisha Cuffee (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run), tennis senior Allison Snyder (Newcomerstown, Ohio/Newcomerstown), and cross country runner sophomore Michaela Ross (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua ).
