Kayla Kelly/Zac Edmiston Named PAC SAAC Scholar-Athletes of the Month

April 14 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College junior softball outfielder Kayla Kelly (Pasadena, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) and senior baseball utility man Zac Edmiston (California, Pa./California) have been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Scholar Athletes of the Month for the month of March, announced the PAC on Tuesday morning.

Kelly helped the Bison softball team get off to a 9-5 start in March, starting all 14 games over the first month of the season. Twice in March she was named the PAC Hitter of the Week, finishing the month hitting .390 with 13 RBIs, 13 runs, four triples, two doubles and a pair of home runs. She hit safely in 10 of Bethany's 14 March games while slugging .780 and posting a .479 on-base percentage.

A Physical Education major, Kelly maintains a 3.92 grade-point average (GPA). She currently serves as a Physical Education Departmental Fellow and is also a member of both the Physical Education and Sports Studies clubs. A two-time PAC Academic Honor Roll and All-PAC Second Team selection, she has worked with Wheeling's Elmhurst House of Friendship, an Ohio Valley retirement and assisted living residence for women, as a member of the Bison softball program.

Kelly becomes the second Bison female during the 2014-15 academic year that has earned a SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month award, joining Lynsie Mandt () who earned the honor in September.

Edmiston appeared in all 16 March games for the Bison, performing well both on the mound and in the batter's box. Offensively, Edmiston hit .339 over the first four weeks of play, totaling five doubles, a triple and a team-best 15 runs scored. Primarily appearing in a lead-off role, he had a hit in 13 of the team's 16 games and posted multi-hit performances on four occasions. On the mound, Edmiston started four games (2-2), posting an earned-run average (ERA) of 2.59 in 24.1 innings of work. His best game came in a complete-game shutout of Delaware Valley College, going seven full innings and allowing just four hits while striking out six.

A Physical Education major, Edmiston carries a 3.56 GPA. A 2014 All-PAC Second Team selection, he is an active member of Bethany's Physical Education Club, Phi Delta Psi Physical Education and Kappa Delta Pi Education honoraries. He has also worked numerous camps with the Wintersville (Ohio) youth baseball program.

Edmiston is the first male athlete for the Bison this season to be tabbed as a Scholar-Athlete of the Month recipient by the PAC. However, his award makes Bethany just the second school this season to earn both the men’s and the women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Month award in the same month.
