Mihalco/Miller Honored as SAAC Athletes of the Week

May 6 – BETHANY, W.Va. - Bison softball first baseman, sophomore Deanna Mihalco (Patterson, N.Y./Brewster) and third baseman, freshman Zack Miller (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.

Mihalco made an impression at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships, as she was named to the conference's All-Tournament Team. She totaled four hits in two games including a three-hit, one RBI performance in a 4-3, ten inning loss to Thomas More. Mihalco finished the season as the Bison's top hitter, finishing the year with a .362 batting average and a team-leading 21 RBI.

Over the course of the year, Mihalco made the Bison offense go, leading the team in batting average (.362), runs batted in (21), hits (42) and walks (12). Arguably her best performance came on March 24 in a win against Penn State – Fayette.  She finished the game with a career-high four RBI’s and also scored two runs.

Miller showed his ability last week, notching a .400 batting average, while collecting six hits. Perhaps his best performance came in a 17-5 win over Thomas More on May 4. He finished the contest with five RBI’s, two of which came on his second home run of the season.

Miller has also been a consistent hitter in his first year on the team, batting .324 at the plate, with two home runs and 19 RBI’s. His season’s best performance came in Bethany’s 15-0 win over Grove City on April 9. Miller finished the contest, driving in three runs on four hits. He also scored three times for the Bison offense.

Other men nominees included Bison outfielder, junior Zac Edmiston (California, Pa./California) and track and field standout, sophomore Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon). Other women were Bison pitcher, junior Kelsey Bish (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and track and field athlete, sophomore Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac).
