March 1 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that track & field seniors Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac) have been named the Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Moore was named Meet MVP and Co-Field MVP at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships, marking the second-straight year he has earned the awards. He broke two PAC Championship records during the meet.
The senior shattered two of his own records that he previously set in the long jump and the triple jump. He won the long jump with a final distance of 23-02.75 and took home first in the triple jump with a record 45-01.00.
Moore also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.16, a performance that helped the Bison men’s indoor team win the PAC Championships for the second consecutive season.
Jackson-McBride led the Bison women’s indoor team as she earned three top-five finishes during the PAC Championships. Jackson-McBride had a strong showing, racing to second place in the 400-meter run (59.74) and third in the 200-meter dash (26.59).
The senior then teamed up with Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local), Biz Timas (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal), and Bri Steich (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) as they earned fourth in the 4X400 relay (4:20.41).
Other nominees for Bethany SAAC Athlete of the Week for the men included swimming freshman Cheyne Stresky (Oxford, Mich./Oxford), track & field junior Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville), and basketball sophomore Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy). For the women, track & field sophomore Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) and basketball junior Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) also received nominations.
