Reilly Parker/Donavan Hayden Selected Bethany SAAC Athletes of the Week

Sept. 22 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that volleyball freshman Reilly Parker (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and senior linebacker Donavan Hayden (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) have been named the Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.

Parker helped lead the Bison volleyball team in their weekend trip to Christopher Newport. During the weekend, Bethany grappled with some of the best teams from around the country, including two programs currently ranked in the top five by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association.

In four matches, Parker tallied 73 total digs. Averaging 18.25 digs per match, Parker posted 20+ digs on two separate occasions, including during the Bison’s 3-1 loss to #4 Juniata. The freshman libero helped the Bethany defense hold their opponents to a .100 hitting percentage or under, twice, which included forcing Averett to hit .083 in the team’s 3-0 victory.

So far on the year, Parker has made her mark as the libero for the Green & White. Playing and starting in every match this season, Parker has tallied 263 total digs and is averaging 6.12 digs per set, both of which rank first in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Hayden earns the nod as the men’s SAAC Player of the Week as he posted a team-high 14 tackles in Bethany’s matchup with Westminster last weekend.

In the game with the Titans, the senior linebacker tallied 11 solo stops and three assisted tackles to lead the team in total stops for the second time in three weeks. Additionally, Hayden was a disruptive force to the Titans offense, causing two fumbles in the game.

So far on the season, Hayden leads the Bison defense with 31 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles. He currently ranks second in the PAC in total stops, and is one of just four players averaging 10+ tackles per game.

Twice already on the year, Hayden has accumulated more than 10 tackles, which included an 11-tackle performance against Mount Union in week one. Dating back to the start of last season, Hayden has now totaled at least 10 tackles in nine of his previous 11 starts.

Other nominees for SAAC Athlete of the Week included junior running back Jalen Holmes (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), freshman soccer player Frederik Thomsen (Skive, Denmark/Skive) and junior cross country standout Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) for the men, and junior soccer player Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), junior cross country runner Michaela Ross (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua) and sophomore tennis player Alyssa Smydo (Bentleyville, W. Va./Bentworth) for the women.
