Sept. 16 - BETHANY, W. Va. - Bison cross country runner, senior Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sophomore quarterback Brian Vales (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) were selected as the Athletes of the Week for Sept. 8 by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on Tuesday morning.
On the women’s side at the Bethany Invitational, Petrone was the first Bison to cross the finish line, finishing the race in 22nd place out of 147 runners with a time of 25:46. She helped Bethany to a seventh-place finish out of 14 teams.
Vales had his best game as a starting quarterback in a 45-24 win over Thiel College on Saturday, Sept.13. Vales finished the game 19-of-23 for 167 yards and two scores through the air. He also added 63 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, to give him 230 total yards and four scores on the day. Vales currently ranks second in the conference in both completion percentage (76.7) and passing efficiency (155.6).
Others nominated for the women included senior volleyball athlete, Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), sophomore soccer player, Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), freshman goalkeeper Taylor Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea), as well as freshman field hockey standout, freshman Morgan Turner (Frederick, Md./Frederick). On the men’s side were junior defensive lineman Nadim Raddar (Laurel, Md./Old Mill), sophomore runner Dylan Martinez (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua) and freshman soccer athlete, Ian Hayhurst (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont).
