May 6 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that junior utility man Ryan Bisi (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and junior outfielder Kayla Kelly (Pasadena, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) have been named the Bethany College SAAC Athletes of the Month for the month of April.
Bisi provided an offensive spark for the Bison in his 15 appearances during the month of April. The junior hit .429 in the month, collecting 15 hits in 35 at bats. Bisi finished the month with four doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored. He tallied two, four-hit performances during the month, which included going 4-for-6 against Westminster on April 10, and 4-for-5 with three RBI in a 16-6 victory at Thiel on April 24. Bisi also made four appearances and three starts on the mound during the month, earning a victory against Geneva College on April 27. In that game, the junior allowed just two earned runs while striking out a pair.
Bisi finished the 2015 season ranked third on the roster in batting average, hitting .349 on the year with 29 hits, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored. Slugging .458 on the year, Bisi also posted an on-base percentage of .443. A talented defenseman, Bisi at one point during the year played at five different positions, posting a fielding percentage of .965.
Kelly played all 22 games for the Bison as the Green & White made their stretch run to the PAC Championship Tournament. The junior outfielder posted a .423 batting average while slugging .577 on the month. Kelly posted 30 hits over the 22 games, including six extra-base hits and 14 RBI. Kelly posted 13 multi-hit games during the month of April, which included seven straight between April 1 and April 14.
Her numbers in the month helped Kelly finish the regular season ranked in the top five in batting average and slugging percentage, as well as leading the PAC in both total bases (77) and stolen bases (14). Named a First-Team All-PAC selection, Kelly finished the regular season with a batting average of .412 while slugging .642. She ranked in the top five in the conference in both RBI (28) as well as runs scored (34).
Other nominees for SAAC Athlete of the Month for the women included: softball players, junior Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and freshman Cassie Weiss (Washington, Pa./McGuffey) and track athletes, sophomore Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and junior Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac).
Other nominees for the men’s award were: junior Matt Shaffer (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and senior Zac Edmiston (California, Pa./California) from the baseball team, sophomore men’s lacrosse standout Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and junior track & field record breaker Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local).
