Oct. 22 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Sasak and junior captain Jack Waters have been named the Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea) earned her second selection as SAAC Athlete of the Week after playing two games in goal for the Bison this past week. The sophomore added to her career-high save total as she collected eight stops against Saint Vincent on October 14. Sasak also recorded 14 saves as the Bison took on Washington & Jefferson on October 17. Sasak currently ranks eighth in all of Division III with 151 saves.
Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) has led the Bison offense for much of the season, and this week was no different. Waters carried Bethany to an overtime victory over Saint Vincent on October 13. The junior was involved in all three Bison goals as totaled two scores and an assist on the game winner. He also led the Green & White with seven shots in the contest. Waters followed up that performance with an assist on Bethany’s lone score against Washington & Jefferson on October 17. He also added four shots on goal in the match. Waters currently ranks fourth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with nine goals.
Honorable mentions for the Bethany SAAC Athlete of the Week awards included: junior cross-country runner Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), junior running back Jalen Holmes (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), and senior wideout Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) for the men. On the women’s side, junior volleyball player Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum), field hockey senior T.J. Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton), and junior cross-country runner Michaela Ross (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua) all received nominations.
