June 15 – BETHANY, W. Va. – For the second-consecutive year, the Bethany College Sports Information Department will be holding its Bison “Performance of the Year” contest in order to recognize and celebrate the 32 top performances from all over the Bethany Athletics’ landscape. For this contest, Bethany will utilize its social media platforms as well as fan participation, as it holds the first ever Performance of the Year tournament, labeled simply “Bisonology”.
For the purposes of Bisonology, the 32 top performances of the year, which brings in at least one representative from every sport on the Bethany campus, is separated into two brackets. The brackets, which will be known as the “Green” and “White” brackets are broken down into groups of 16. The single-elimination tournament will take place throughout the summer months and winners will be decided by you, the fans.
The Bethany Instagram (Bethany_Athletics) page will serve as the platform where the Sports Information department will release the matchups. Those posts will also be shown on the Bethany College Twitter (@Bethany_Bison) and Facebook (Bethany Athletics) feeds.
The first round will start on Wednesday, June 17, and will feature one matchup from each bracket. Voting will last from 10 a.m. on the day the matchup is released and will close at 9 a.m., two days later (matchups released on Friday will see voting last through the weekend until the following Monday morning). The winner of the rounds will then be announced along with the next set of matchups. A complete list of first-round bouts (and date of release) can be found here.
Rules for voting
There are two ways in which a fan can vote for their favorite performance, utilizing both Twitter and Facebook.
On Twitter, you can tweet @Bethany_Bison with your vote, which including the hashtag #BPOY along with the corresponding four letter code for the vote (ie – Mackenzie Lauber from the volleyball program would be listed as #MLVB).
On Facebook, fans can vote by either liking for one athlete or commenting for the other with the directions for each round being posted on the matchup.
Fans are encouraged to vote on both social media platforms, but only one vote per person per medium is accepted.
Last season Bethany Baseball’s Zack Miller (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) earned the first-annual Performance of the Year award for a 4-for-5 performance in a PAC playoff-berth clinching victory over Thomas More College. This year, the fans have even more power, so make sure to vote for your favorite performance of the year!
