Oct. 22 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Freshman women’s soccer standout, Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe), and football sophomore wideout, Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver), have been named the Bethany College Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week announced the committee on Tuesday.
Slezak earned her second SAAC Athlete of the Week award, helping the Bison to a 1-1 record last week, including a 2-0 win over Chatham University. Slezak had two goals and one assist for a total of five points in the two games. She scored both of the Bison’s two goals in a 3-2 loss to Waynesburg, and recorded an assist in the victory over Chatham.
Slezak currently ranks third in the conference in goals with nine and is four in the PAC in total points, having notched 20 so far on the season.
Blinn was up to his old tricks in the Bison’s 27-20 victory over Waynesburg on Saturday. Blinn caught 11 passes for 153 yards and two scores, both of which came in the second half. The first came on a fourth-and-goal which tied the game at 20-20. The second, a 68-yard catch-and-run gave Bethany the lead for good with just 20 seconds to play in the game.
Blinn has already surpassed his season totals from last year, as he currently ranks second in the country in all of Division III in receptions (62) and receiving yards (839). This is also the second time that Blinn has been named the male SAAC Athlete of the Week.
Other nominees for the Athletes of the Week included Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) on the women’s side, and Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) for the men.
