Olean has over 20 years of experience as an athletic trainer and comes to Bethany after serving the last year as an assistant athletic trainer at Salem International University in Salem, W.Va. At Salem, he provided athletic training services to 11 NCAA Division II teams, and documented injury and treatments using Sportsware online.
Prior to Salem, he worked at Potomac State College of West Virginia University from 2010-2012. He was in charge of the annual budget at Potomac State and also was an instructor for athletic training classes in the physical education department.
Before working at Potomac State, Olean was the head athletic trainer at New Jersey Institute of Technology and SUNY Cobleskill College. He also worked for Riverview High School, Leechburg High School, Milford High School, and Hood College.
Olean earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Allied Health from Slippery Rock University in 1991 and went on to attain his Masters degree in Physical Education from Springfield College in 1998.

Deanne Porterfield is in her first year as the assistant athletic trainer at Bethany College.
Porterfield comes to Bethany after spending a year at Nova Care Rehabilitation in Charleroi, Pa. As part of her duties, she served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Charleroi High School, where she was responsible for the care of 150 student-athletes.
In previous experiences prior to her time at Nova Care, Porterfield also worked at National Rehab and was an assistant athletic trainer at Robert Morris University for three and a half years, where she worked with men’s lacrosse, women’s volleyball and softball. Porterfield earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Athletic Training from California (Pa.) University.
In addition to being a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Porterfield is also a Performance Enhancement Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-PES) and is an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider in CPR and AED.
