Class of 1984

A cross country and track and field standout from Weir Senior High School in Weirton, W. Va., Barry L. Calvert competed at Bethany after becoming a Regional Champion in cross country and an OVAC champion in the one-mile run in track during his high school career. Calvert also excelled in the classroom, as he was a member of the National Honor Society.

A two-time NCAA Division III Championship qualifier (1980, 1982), Calvert left his mark on the Bethany cross country program as well. His best appearance at the Division III Championships came in 1980 where he posted a time of 28:12. Calvert also found success at the conference championships, earning first-team all-conference recognition in both the 1981 and 1983 seasons.

Away from running, Calvert was named to the Who's Who Among College and University Students list and the Dean's List during his college career.
