Class of 1983
Eileen Reading, a graduate of South Side High School in Rockville Centre, N.Y., was a member of nine Pennwood West Conference Championship teams while at Bethany, earning four letters in field hockey, basketball, and softball and two in volleyball (14 total). She was elected captain and team MVP in field hockey, basketball, and softball, as well as receiving All-Conference Honors in each of those three sports.
Unanimously selected as the Bethany Tower Female Athlete of the Year in 1980 and 1983, Reading was named the 1982 PWC Most Valuable Player in field hockey. She holds the Bethany career record for goals in field hockey with 54, as well as the single-season record for goals with 20.
Academically, Reading holds a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., where she was a teaching assistant from 1984-1985.
Since 1985, Reading has served as an Associate Professor of Physical Education at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., and as the Head Women's Basketball Coach and Assistant Softball Coach.
In 1990, Reading was one of eight NCAA Division III women's basketball coaches to be named All-American Coaches by the American Women's Sports Federation.
