Roark, a 1925 Bethany graduate, was the first in Bison history to earn 12 letters. He was a member of the football, basketball and baseball squads. Roark was named an All-West Virginia gridder in 1922 and, in the 1930s, was named to the all-time Bethany College team by the Pittsburgh Press.
Roark continued his sports interests following graduation from Bethany and coached at Sistersville and Follansbee High Schools in West Virginia and at New Brighton High School in Pennsylvania. He was the physical education director and coach at Washington and Jefferson College and at Westminster College, and he served as athletic director at Cataret School in West Orange, N.J. Roark recieved his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
