James L. Collins

Class of 1949

A standout athlete at Wheeling High School, James L. Collins participated in Wheeling High's football, basketball, swimming, and track teams, earning city, regional, and state honors in swimming.

Collins, who remains a resident of Wheeling, W.Va., was captain of the Bison 1948 football team. For his play, he earned spots on five All-Opponent teams.

While at Bethany, Collins also participated in two years of basketball and one year of track and field.

Away from athletics, Collins was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, President of the Bison Club, and a charter member of the Kalon Honor Society.

A business administration and economics major, Collins, who is now retired, worked as a business executive for 45 years, traveling to all 50 states over the course of his career.

Collins and his wife, Wilma, have four children (Timothy, Kirk, Scott, and Stacey), two of which are Bethany graduates.
