Mark Swiger
Cross Country, Track & Field
Class of 1982

Swiger was All-Conference in cross country, All-Conference in track and field, and All-NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional in cross country for the Bison. Twice a cross country national qualifier, he placed second in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional.

Affiliated with Sigma Nu fraternity as an undergraduate, Swiger was also a member of the Varsity B Club.

A social studies teacher at Cameron (W.Va.) High School since 1982, Swiger has coached cross country and track and field at Cameron, John Marshall High School, and Wheeling Jesuit University. He has three times been named West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, two times the WVIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, and two times the NAIA Women's Mid-South Regional Coach of the Year. His teams have won six WVIAC cross country titles since 1991 and he has coached 28 All-Conference runners and 11 Academic All-Americans since 1990.

In addition to a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship in South Africa in 1995, Swiger has earned numerous teaching and coaching honors and is active in school and civic organizations and councils. He is a member of the NCAA National Track and Field Coaches Association.

Swiger resides in Wheeling, W.Va., with his wife, Dawn. They are the parents of two children.
