Nicknamed "Hump," the late Paul Neel was an active high school athlete, competing in football, basketball, and track for Mingo High School in Mingo Junction, Ohio.
Neel's athletic achievements continued through his Bethany career. As a Bison running back and punter for the football team, he was named to the 1926 All-Tri-State team. He also sprinted for the track team, running the 100 and 220-yard dashes.
From 1932 until his retirement in 1968, Neel was an employee of Weirton Steel and resided in Steubenville, Ohio.
