Raymond McCarthy
Cross Country, Track and Field
Class of 1983

A three-time NCAA Division III Championship participant (1980, 1981, 1982), Ray McCarthy had a successful career as a member of the Bison cross country program, his best season coming in 1980. That year, he finished first at the Division III South/Southeast Regionals before capping of the season with a 78th place finish (26:42) at the national championships, the highest finish at nationals in Bethany College history.  

McCarthy was also a three-year letterman for the track program, setting a school record time of 4:00.03 in the 1,500, a record that still stands today. 

After graduating in 1983, McCarthy went on to work as a computer programmer analyst for the United States' Government from 1987 to 1998.  McCarthy currently works as a programmer for the American International Group (AIG), which is based in Wilmington, Delaware.  He resides in Folsom, Pennsylvania.
