Class of 1920
The late William Latto, originally from Uhrichsville, Ohio, was a four-year member of the Bethany football team and played one year with the baseball squad.
Graduating in 1921, Latto was named the gridiron team captain as both a junior and senior. In 1920, he was credited with playing every minute of all ten games, offensively as a guard and defensively as a halfback, including Bethany's 84-0 win that year over Salem College.
Also affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity during his time at Bethany, Latto earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to serve as a professor of Physical Education and tennis coach at Bethany and, later, with the Red Cross in Italy during World War II.
Latto is survived by his wife, Thelma, of Palm Springs, Calif., and two children, Martha and William Jr.
