Class of 1941
William A. Wells lettered in football three of the four years he played for the Bison. He captained the 1940 team that beat Washington and Jefferson College, the first win over that rival in 30 years, helping him earn All-West Virginia Conference Second-Team honors.
In track, Wells ran the 880-yard and 440-yard for the Green and White.
President of his graduating class, Wells was also President of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the International Relations Club, in addition to being active in student government.
Following his graduation, Wells continued to be active in sports by joining the Courtside Tennis Club in Venice, Fla. Married to Julia Wakefield Wells, Class of 1942, he is retired after 39 years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.
