April 1 – NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Bethany College baseball team dropped an 11-2 decision in a non-conference contest with Muskingum University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bison got on the board first in the top of the second inning, striking for both runs in the frame. After Luke Flaus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) walked to reach first, freshman Saige Micomonaco (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) moved him to third with a double to left field. The Bison then plated two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Max Barrios (Concord, N.C./Northwest Cabarrus) and Adam Becker (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township). Barrios singled home Flaus while Becker brought home Micomonaco to put the Bison up 2-0.
Muskingum responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 advantage over the Green & White. The Muskies then added a run in the third and in the fourth. Muskingum then blew the game open, posting six runs in the fifth to push the lead to 11-2, which would be the final.
Offensively for the Bison, the Green & White picked up seven hits from seven different players, including RBI hits from Becker and Barrios. Micomonaco, Zack Miller (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) and Andrew Gilliland (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) all pitched in with an extra-base hit.
On the mound, the pitching combination of Alex Fenstermaker (Kirkland, Ohio/Kirkland) and Joe Hoffman had the most success for the Bison, holding Muskingum off the scoreboard over the final three innings. Fenstermaker pitched two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one. Hoffman worked a scoreless eighth, allowing just one hit.
The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, April 8 when they host a conference doubleheader with Washington & Jefferson College. The first game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
