May 7 - GREENVILLE, Pa. – After throwing a shutout in his final pitching appearance for the Bethany College baseball team, senior Brad Kubis (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) was selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Pitcher of the Week for May 6.
In the Bison’s last doubleheader of the season at Penn State Behrend Saturday, Kubis took the mound against the Lions’ Ryan Jacobs, who entered the game with a 7-0 record and ERA under 1.50. Before he threw a pitch, Kubis had a single in the opening inning, which helped the Bison score a run to take a 1-0 lead.
That would be enough offense for the senior right-hander. Although he allowed seven hits and only retired the side in order once, Kubis held the Lions, who lead the AMCC, scoreless through the game. He struck out eight, as he ran his scoreless innings streak to 15.
The program’s all-time leader in saves, Kubis struck out 17 in his final two appearances, which were the first two starts of his career. He finished his final season with a 3-1 record on the hill with a 2.25 ERA and 28 Ks in 28 innings of work.
A biology major, Brad is the son of Bob & Terri Kubis of Aliquippa, Pa.
