May 1 - WEXFORD, Pa. – After throwing his first collegiate shutout last week, Bethany College freshman Ryan Meier (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Pitcher of the Week for April 30.

Meier pitched the Bison to a 3-0 victory in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader against Westminster, which gave BC a sweep of the conference twinbill. He allowed just one hit, which came with one out in the second inning, and walked only three, with the last free pass coming in the fourth inning. The right-hander allowed just one base runner to advance to second base and retired the final 11 batters while striking out three in the game.

It’s been a stellar first season on the hill for Meier, who leads the team in wins with a 5-1 record and his 2.53 ERA is sixth in the PAC. He’s allowed only 46 hits in 46 1/3 innings and struck out 28. Four of his five victories have come against PAC opponents and he also has one save to his credit, which came against Pitt-Greensburg March 20.

“We are very happy to see Ryan receive this honor,” said Bison head coach Rick Carver. “He is certainly deserving and has pitched well and been an outstanding competitor all year. When you look at it, you have the Perfect Game, a No-Hitter and a one-hit shutout, so he was about as good as a pitcher can be on Sunday.”

A communications major, Ryan is the son of Steve & Lori Meier of Elizabeth, Pa.
