4/21: NCAA DIII National T&F Championships - Umar Moore: 7th in Long Jump (23-07.50) - Becomes Bethany Track's First Three-Time All-American!
BETHANY CROSS COUNTRY RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
March 6 - NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Bethany women’s cross country team has received the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team Honors, as announced March 3 by the coaches.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at the NCAA Regional Meet and have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average through the 2008 fall semester.
Bethany’s women, led by head coach Mark Swiger, recorded a team GPA of 3.376 through last fall to post the highest average by a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) program. Eight of the runners on the roster boast a GPA higher than 3.2, led by junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central), who was an ESPN the Magazine Second Team All-District II in track last season.
The rest of the Bison cross country team includes sophomore Lindsay Brewer (Wadsworth, Ohio), sophomore Shadoe Martin (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central), junior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort), junior Alissa Moss (Meadow Lands, Pa./Chartiers-Houston), junior Katherine Reuning (Butler, Pa./Mars), sophomore Emily Roth (Bexley, Ohio), sophomore Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and senior Laura Strassguetl (Munich, Germany/Rupprecht Gymnasium).
Middlebury (Vt.) College, this year’s national champions, was selected as the 2008 NCAA Division III USTFCCA National Scholar Team of the Year. In all, a record total of 156 programs were recognized with All-Academic Team honors, including three from the PAC (Bethany, Westminster, Grove City).
