Oct. 11 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bethany College men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the highly competitive Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday afternoon, which featured more than 160 female runners and 140 male competitors.
The Bison women finished 13th overall out of 14 complete teams, while the BC men competed as individuals only. Carnegie Mellon won the team title on the men’s side, while the first place women’s team was Division II Indiana University (Pa.).
Bethany junior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort) was the top runner for the BC women, as she placed 49th overall in the 164-runner field with a time of 21:34.46. The next two Bison runners to finish were senior Laura Strassguetl (Munich, Germany/Rupprecht Gymnasium) in 99th place and junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) in 107th.
Senior Matt Schlemmer (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) was the first Bethany runner to cross the finish line when he registered a time of 32:46.51.
This was scheduled to be the final tune-up for the Bison prior to PAC Championships, which will be held Nov. 1. The race will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, and hosted by Thomas More.
