Sept. 8 - WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Bethany College cross country teams continued to turn in strong early-season performances, highlighted by two freshmen on the men’s side and one on the women’s, when the Bison ran at the Waynesburg Invitational Saturday.

The Bethany men’s team finished eighth out of nine overall teams, while the BC women were 10th out of 14 programs. Division II California (Pa.) University was the top scoring team on the men’s side and the Cal men were beat out by PAC member Geneva for first place in the women’s standings.

The highest finish from a Bethany runner came in the women’s race by freshman Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio). She placed 21st overall out of 132 runners and 16th among non-scholarship runners by crossing the finish line in 25:58.3. Sophomore Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa.) was the next in Green and White to finish, as she was 43rd overall with a time of 27:21.8.

Two junior runners were sandwiched around a Bison freshman to complete those who scored for BC. Junior Heather Hamm (Milton, Vt./BFA Fairfax) claimed 66th place, freshman Gabi Bonazzo (Gassaway, W.Va./Braxton) was 72nd and junior Emily King (Hapers Ferry, W.Va./Washington) came in 76th.

The Bison men saw two newcomers finish in back-to-back positions in the 89-man field. Sophomore Cody McDonald (Martinsburg, W.Va./Mussleman) led the Green and White pack by taking 29th place in a time of 29:22. Right behind him in 30th was freshman Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), as he clocked in at 29:33.3.
